Using the tools of grammar and writing skills, your student will be able to excel at the state mandated writing test.  This class is geared towards 9th graders or any other student who has had difficulty in passing this test.  This class also helps students become more prolific writers, and teaches students the power that can be gained from creating well-written and meaningful communications.

Course name: Exploring Literature

Course# 2002
Length: Year

Credits/yr: 3.00
Literature is no longer defined through books; rather, literature has advanced into digital media, graphic novels, slam poetry, iMovie, etc. This course is designed to take the voyage through experiencing, understanding, and creating multiple types of literature.  Through this course, each student will be able to gain an appreciation for the multiple varieties of literature the world has to offer.  Students will spend a portion of the class reading, viewing, and hearing these different forms; and will be assessed through their own creation of similar writings, drawings, and recordings.

Course name: Multicultural Literature

Course# 2003
Length: Year

Credits/yr: 3.00

Every culture has a voice, but some of these voices have been muted in typical English courses.  This course will do the exact opposite.  We will read literature created by Africans, African-Americans, Asians, Asian-American, Native Americans, Latinos and more.  This course will explore what causes cultures to develop unique voices, and explain why it is important to hear these stories.  By allowing these silenced voices to speak, we will open the doors for their experiences to affect our own.

Course name: Screenwriting

Course# 2004
Length: Year

Credits/yr: 3.00

Learn how to put that movie idea on paper, and do it like the pros do.  This course teaches students to format, plot, present, and market a script like a professional.  Intro students complete a 30-page script and publish it in The Last Draft, ComArts annual compilation of screenplays.  Advanced students complete a feature length script and learn how to break into the market through festivals, contests, and self-marketing.  Students work in a Macintosh computer Lab using Movie Magic Screenwriter formatting software.
