Welcome to MTS Digital Media Academy
The MTS Communication Arts High School's Digital Media Academy gives students the chance to learn the craft of writing and producing video and audio. Through hands-on experience with professional grade equipment and personal instruction, students are given the knowledge and skills necessary to work in today's digital art fields, as well as the opportunity to explore and express their own voice through film and music.
From Video Production, Screenwriting, to Audio Production, the Digital Media Academy has it!
Video Production
Professional grade videos - written, shot, acted, edited, scored, and produced entirely by MTS Students. Students in the Video Department produce five minute videos, both fictional and documentary, using modern, professional-grade equipment, including:
- Macintosh video and sound labs
- Final Cut video editing software
- Canon digital video cameras
- Marantz digital recording for sound
- Pro Tools editing software for sound
- Digital and traditional photography
- Black & White and Color processing
Students have the opportunity to meet with Twin Cities film professional to discuss careers in video, and are introduced to the various post-secondary options for film. Additionally, each year they share their works with peers, parents, and community members at MTS's Annual Five-Minute Film Festival.
Screenwriting
The Digital Media Academy doesn't just teach students how to produce video. MTS Screenwriting students have the opportunity to learn the craft of writing for film. All students in the Screenwriting department complete 30 page, professional-grade scripts that look and feel like the scripts used in Hollywood. Advanced students complete feature-length scripts (90 pages or more), and are assisted in marketing them to agents, production companies, and screenwriting festivals. Each year, MTS produces a compilation of student screenwriting available for anyone to purchase.
Audio Production
The Digital Media Academy gives students a chance to create and produce their own music, all while gaining familiarity and experience with the same tools used in the professional world.
Students learn the basics of music and keyboarding while simultaneously exploring the world of digital recording in a truly hands-on approach.
MTS's Studio features a fully functioning, professional recording facility where students can envision and create original music. The Studio facility includes:
- 3 editing suites featuring Pro Tools 6.9 & 7.1
- An isolation booth for recording vocals, drums, piano, and guitar.
- Computer/keyboard lab and Pro Tools instructional video library
